Professional Memo

Assignment:
Before creating a brochure for our client (see Client Brochure for more information), I was asked to research sources to find more infomation about the design and development of brochures as an informative document. The most helpful sources were to be shared with the rest of our team, Hanson Writers.

Process:
After researching some sources for developing our client's brochure, I wrote a memo to the staff of Hanson Writers (our class) and to my CEO (professor) about the top three sources that would benefit our teams the most.

Client Brochure

Assignment:
In my Advanced Business Communications class, we were able to work with an actual client who needed a new brochure. Diane Johnson, director of the Iditarod Education Department, asked our teams to prepare a brochure that promoted the Winter Teachers’ Conference which is held in Anchorage, Alaska each year.

Process:
We targeted two audiences: the teachers who wanted to attend the conference and the principals who had to provide the funding for the teachers to attend. With a group of four members, we divided the workload in terms of sections of the brochure. I completed the price table in the third panel on the inside section of the brochure and helped develop the design for the entire brochure.

Technical Manual

Assignment:
The goal of the group project for my Technical Communications class was to produce a new invention using Lego blocks and develop an accompanying user manual.

Process:
After splitting into groups of four members and creating our product, I was chosen to divide the workload for the manual and create a timeline for our team. We presented thes division of work and the timeline in a proposal memo along with our budget and plans for testing our document. After the proposal was approved, I worked to complete my section ("Usage") and helped others with their sections. We used tables and figures in the manual to make each step of the building process easy for young users.

Creative Writing

Assignment:
For one of my many poetry assignments in my Advanced Poetry Workshop, I was asked to write a pantoum, which relies on line repetition throughout the poem.

Process:
With all of the repetitions, I could only write a few great lines in order to satisfy the required length. Therefore, every line was carefully thought out and placed so that it made sense in the grand scheme of the poem.

Website

Assignment:
During my freshman year at Francis Marion, I was able to participate in a special topics Honor class which focused on the legend of King Arthur. For the final project, we were to research a character from the stories of King Arthur and present our findings to the class.

Process:
I chose to create a website that my classmates could navigate in order to learn more about my character, Morgan Le Fay.

Assignment:
In my Spanish class, we were asked to create a colorful, interesting presentation on a selected topic to show to the class.

Process:
Our group of three decided to research fútbol, or soccer. My section included the history of fútbol and how it came to be Spain's biggest sport. We also incorporated graphics to keep the audience interested.
